capture it or live it?

I am loving my new camera! I love it's ability to better capture the essence of the moment but it has raised a new dilemma...
Capture the moment (peering at at the world through your lens making adjustments) or truly be in the moment?
I have never been a "photographer" so learning all the photo skills, settings, lingo is a new job for me. My oft photographed subjects are no longer amused with the novelty and roll their eyes anytime they see the camera in my hand. So which do you do?

I am no professional by any means, but I guess I do both. I like to capture but other times I like to just be in the moment. Share with us what you learn as you go along...

You do both. Find a balance and it will work! What lenses do you have? I am so excited for you!

definitely both... carry camera, enjoy the moment and capture the ones that aren't as 'exciting'... I was thinking that same thought at my son's soccer game yesterday. Each time he had some great action going on, I was so busy watching, I didn't capture. Then when I wasn't so captivated by the game, I was capturing the less exciting moments on camera. Ironic.

i know i'm a photographer and everything, but sometimes ya just gotta put it down.

I'm the one behind the lens...always and I'm ok with it. My kids just know.

I had this problem yesterday. We went to the aquarium again. I thought, "Nah, I don't need my camera. I've already taken pics of the kids there. I'll just enjoy the experience." Then what happens? The kids get called up to participate in the "Jay Minnow" show and I lost the opportunity to get pics of ds dressed as a shark and dd as a sea lion up on stage. doh!

Definitely both. Although I no longer carry my big camera on family activities. I rely on my point and shoot for those. It works nicely. I still take the good one to soccer games and karate tournaments though. I don't really have any trouble enjoying it with or without the camera to my face. lol
