I am not someone who generally gains weight- but this Christmas I added 5 lbs- would you like a sampling of where those 5 lbs came from...1- Prime rib and gravy, roasted potatoes, peas and pearl onions, yorkshire pudding, and croissant bread pudding and haagen das vanilla ice cream.
2-Turkey with mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry salad, and 4- yes 4 types of homemade pie made by my friend jennifer (coconut cream, apple, pecan, and pumpkin)
3- Dinner out- a ribeye with asparagus and whipped potatoes, Caesar salad, fresh rolls, creme brulee
4- Lunch at the inn in Williamsburg- Mini kobe beef burgers with a citrus tossed salad (fresh lime segments and grapefruit- tart and tasty!) and decadent chocolate cake
5- Mongolian Beef and Honey Coated Chicken at PF Changs
6- Eggs, Bacon, Debra's Homemade coffee cake and Sourdough Pancakes and my grandparents great "green grapefruits"
oh and about 2 lbs of sees chocolates, lindt truffles, godiva bars- and a reminder to self- cake and pie are not breakfast foods!
I guess I know what my news years resolution should be...

But what a completely delicious way to gain 5 lbs! Makes me hungry just reading about it.
I gained weight just reading this. LOL!
Good job! I haven't nor do I expect to step on the scale. I got creme brulee cooking stuff for Christmas and have been putting it to use. . . a lot. My husband is from Williamsburg. He grew up going to the Inn for Thanksgiving every year while his Grandma was alive. He couldn't stand it because he lived there, but it became one of those humorous, fond memories over time. Happy New Year!
jaime- how funny- my grandmother insists we go to the inn every year from a girls lunch at Christmas-(one year it was booked and we ate at the trellis instead which I think has better food and rockin dessert but my grandmother insists on the elegance of the inn (I really dig their pretzel rolls) I almost went to william and Mary- I got in there but turned them down for a better offer :>! Besides i would've gained 10 lbs if i went there just buying carmel apples from the candy shop on the edge of the colonial part
oh and i totally love making creme brulee- it was the first thing i made when i came home from the hospital after smart son was born- I love it with lots of vanilla bean flecks- but i have to say if you mix white and brown sugar and smooth it finely over the top it makes the best burnt sugar- (I like it better than just white or just brown)
Holy Yum!! Sounds worth it to me ;)
ooooo, thank you for the brown/white sugar combo tip. I've been having trouble torching it. As it's browning, I've been burning my knuckles a little bit. Kind of like when you are frying in a pan. This sounds really delicious with the two sugars. Thank you!
