yes it's offical - today is lurker amnesty day- I know you're out there- so post a comment and say Hi (you are allowed to remain anonymous)-I promise I am nice- With over 12,000 pageloads- Some of you owe me a comment- be it good, bad, or ugly (okay don't make it too bad and make me cry)-I know you aren't responsible for all 12,000 of those hits, some of those are misguided searchers who stumble upon me looking for spudnut recipes, billy bookcases, ralph s mouse lesson plans and other random things.

So be brave and show me some comment love today and if you come out now I won't hunt you down-

Well, okay. I guess I'm a bit skeptical of the blog world - at least the small portion that I've seen. All it seems like is a way of saying "look at all of the things I can do" or "look at my beautiful home (insert other words here)." Generally speaking, everyone just wants a pat on the back and a comment that they're doing a great job. Maybe it's a good way to get a little encouragement. I just think it's a little funny - I guess so is periodically reading random blogs!!

    Dear anonymous-
what's wrong with a pat on the back now and then? Heck- even a comment or two.

    Hey smart mama-
just wanted to say that you do great things, your home is beautiful and you deserve a pat on the back and I wanted to tell you you're doing a great job. :D

    Smooches

    ROFL

(But I really mean that stuff)
    (Well- except the smooches)

  4. gabs-thanks

anonymous- thank you for venturing out-I am curious to know the thoughts of my non-commenters. I don't know if tried blogging you might just like it. I'll answer the charges on behalf of the blog world- Yes, blogs do provide a forum for show and tell (especially for me because well I am an artist- so what I create is a big expression of my personality), but also as an artist I know with a show comes a critique and I have say bloggers are a courageous lot at least for sharing parts of themseleves and being open to all reviews and judgements. Blogs are a great place to put your thoughts, to journal your life, (and it looks way cooler on here than in those fabric covered journals I used to scrawl in) but far and away I like blogging for the fact that it celebrates the individual I love learning what makes someone different from everyone else on the planet, and mommy blogging- well I have chosen the mommy track and will trade my professional glories and bucks for a few "good job! or "yep I cleaned up poop today too" comments (its totally an even trade- but don't tell my secret or I think a bunch of women will start quitting work to mommy blog and I could really upset the economic balance) actually in all seriousness I believe in mommy blogging because it celebrates our choices as women and family relationships and that is the thing I am most passionate about and no history book will record the great unsung stories. I would be remiss if I didn't give some high fives to the others of the blog world- there are some amazing people out there- whose blogs teach, inspire, support, encourage you to think or try something new, or provide a little humor, and I thank them for that, because my blog reading has made me better. You're always welcome to do your periodic reading here... and maybe once I'll get to do one for those things for you.

amber- smooches back babe- I thought of you yesterday as i making a cake for shower tonight at my house--

  5. I always feel that as a SAHM I don't get a lot of pats on the back. When I was working with real adults every day, I got lots of positive feedback, even if it was something like "I like your shirt." So yeah, I'm pretty shameless about wanting some pats on the back sometimes, but I think that's ok.

And as for being a lurker, being able to keep my mouth shut is something I could never be accused of.

  6. I definitely read your blog from time to time and look like to look at your art. I think I may have left a comment back some time ago... but I'll leave you another one.
As for Ms. Anonymous... I use my blog to keep in touch with friends and family. My siblings are all in different states and it's a great way to journal your happenings with pictures for friends and family (and lurkers) to see and read.
It's more than a pat on the back for me, the reality of it is that there are good and bad days with the kids and family and daily happenings-- however, I am proud to say that I have been blessed with a typically wonderful life, so if you don't like it, don't read it.

Hi! I love reading your blog.

Like Chel, I also blog mostly for family, but I'm starting to like some of the bloggy friends I'm getting to know through their blogs.

  10. My husband always says that the blogging world is a big mutual admiration society. It's true, and it's great! Okay, we may show off a bit sometimes. But, one of the nice things about blogging is that it is a place to share yourself and hope someone notices and supports your efforts.

Maybe we don't always share our failures or weaknesses or the cluttered corners of our homes or lives. But, generally we beat our selves up enough about them. We don't need to expose them for further critique. Maybe that presents a limited view of who we really are. And maybe we need to be braver and share some of that side of ourselves more. But, really, a blog is the person's who writes it, and she (and he) should share whatever they want!

Well I'm back to see the reaction to my anonymous comment. Smartmama - you can't really be hoping for any true art critique among blogging friends. Come on - they're your friends, not critics! Nettie hit the nail on the head - blogging is a great place to share your best self and have a personal rejuvenation. I'm glad that it is something you all enjoy!

  13. Well you can feel good anonymous for sparking a discussion- I think you misread my comment though- I was likening blogging to a art show - when you hang a piece you open yourself to the public or private praise or censure of any who see it-(which you don't do if you keep it hidden in your bedroom closet). Just as in a show you generally present work you like- you knwo the reactions to what you do will always be mixed (whether they are spoken or unspoken). As for my art, I really do like critique- alot of people don't feel comfortable giving it - but it something I encourage- "hey that right corner is really weak", or "that looks flat", it actually really helps-(the bad part of not being in an class or guild at the moment is having no one to give you suggestions) Glad to have you as part of our dialogue.
