the curtain is falling
I have been absent...I have been trying to soak up every last bit of summer family vacation goodness this past week at the beach. (I can't wait to get home and give you a full picturelogue of my trip!) I am already feeling that pang of emptiness as the curtain is falling on yet another summer. At the same time that rumbly butterflies- in- my- stomach- excitement, that comes with fall and a new school year is pushing its way in. Vacation will wind away as all the rigors and routines of life begin whittling away our previously sublime days. This season always makes me pensive. It is a reminder of growing up and letting go. A time when the usually imperceptible passing away of the magic of childhood can be felt so tangibly. We try to bury it under freshly sharpened pencils, crisp clothes, and new backpacks. Somehow those wistful feelings creep in, those teary eyed reminders of the brief moments you live in and few you have yet before you as a mother of young children.

I too am really sad summer is closing in on us. I feel like last week was my first week of actually feeling well enough to get out and do something with my kiddos. So sad. One more week and my girls are in dance camp all week. If I had known this would happen, I wouldn't have sent them. Ohwell. I'm off to Belmont, MA to visit the temple and my two sisters and mother this week for a couple of days. LOVE family time. I love the picture of you and your son - it's beautiful.
it's hitting me, too. Kael starts kinder this year, in a week. i feel like i'm saying goodbye to a huge, sweet part of his life. I'm excited for him, but it's bittersweet.
I'm sure it has a lot to do with my boring parentness but I'm always so happy to get back to a regular routine--that's where I thrive. And oddly enough I am thrilled that Alex is starting Kindergarten because he is going to love it and learn so many things I can't offer him here.
You should be a WRITER! So beautiful it's almost poetic! And the picture is BEAUTIFUL! I LOVE summer--hate to see it go, but FALL is my favorite time of the year! Well said.
I can't believe that the summer is already going/gone!
Can't wait to see those shots
Last year I spent the whole summer whining that it was too long. This summer it's been too short. Maybe I just like to whine, but I'm going to miss the kids when they go back to school next week!
M started school almost 2 weeks ago now and i'm still struggling with these feelings. what a great post!
I love the way you wrote this, and I feel exactly the same way. I too feel the wistfulness as summer ends--and yet I eagerly anticipate the arrival of fall and school starting. I have loved it since I was a small child, and it still hasn't changed. Now I'm excited for my kids, even though it's so hard to let them go!
End of summer blues...it is great to be able to soak up time well spent with the family and the kids as they go through different stages. Last summer was different than this summer. Each year has it's own flavor so to speak. But all are delicious to take in!
What a great post! I love the way you put it. We have had a great summer also, but I feel the need for a routine to set in again for all of us. Some days I wish I could just live in the moment more rather than waiting for the next thing to come along.
i'm with you, it's SAD! i have LOVED this summer, but I'm not letting it end until that bus pulls away with my KINDERGARTENER.
when will you be HOME? i think we have berries waiting for us
it is ending sadly- Who knows what we are doing for school- ahh we still have a few weeks to decide right? I'll be home late late tomorrow night! i can't wait for berry extravaganza!!
Awww. You're making me teary.
That's a beautiful picture of you and your son!
Gorgeous picture, love it! I'm sure in a few years, I will have similar sentiments. Right now, it doesn't phase me too much- hey I worked all summer and now get to be home:-) No regrets here.
